As a young Ruth Bader Ginsburg awaits a life-altering phone call, Suzie Miller gives us history in the making through to history made. The opening of this work — a glove ready for an actor to slip into — presents one of those rare and exhilarating moments in theatre where the craft is so deftly handled as to be invisible. The intensity of this scene propels the rest of the work effortlessly.

This is a powerful piece of writing that explores a beloved public figure’s life, from the landmark Supreme Court cases over which she presided to her transformation into a global feminist icon. More compelling still is Miller’s rendering of Ginsberg’s inner life, her strength and struggles, her less-than-perfect humanity. It is here that Miller stakes her claim for the universality of the tale she has to tell.
