A black and white photo of a rhythmic gymnast in a leotard and high heels lies on her back, balancing 5 silver rings in the Olympics logo formation on her feet. White handwriting around the left edge of the photo says 'OLYMPIC RINGS - SHIRLEY REGAN - "PIX" OCT '56'

From photographs of the Australian team travelling to the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, to the 1972 Munich Olympics diary of triple gold-medallist Shane Gould, to the 2000 Sydney Olympics and fine definitions of what makes a sandwich, the Library has a wonderful collection of Olympic Games material. In this presentation, Andrew Trigg and Brendan Somes will present a few of their favourite stories from the collection. Dive into not only the competitors and the odd statistic or three, but also the fashions, the programs, the menus and some Ancient Greek.

Andrew Trigg and Brendan Somes work in the Library’s Collection Acquisition and Curation branch.
