Lesbian and gay political groups offered safe meeting places. From the early 1970s, Sydney's inner west became a hub of lesbian and gay political activism, with regular meetings and debates, fundraising dances at the Glebe and Balmain town halls, and CAMP Inc's weekly parties in its Balmain clubrooms.
